Make sure you warm up before you really get going. Warming up is important before any strenuous activity you want to do, but especially for hiking long distances. Warming up can be done on the trail itself, but take those first few steps a little more easily than normal. This will help acclimate your muscles to the change in movement, and you’ll be ready to tackle longer distances. After warming up, make sure you stretch. Stretching is extremely important when doing any strenuous activity, but it shouldn’t be done before your muscles are warm. Stretching after you’ve warmed up is ideal because your muscles will be more flexible, and you’ll be able to get a better, safer stretch. This will also keep your muscles limber for the trek, and you’ll be less likely to suffer an overuse injury. Hike light and easy. This doesn’t mean pack light for your trek, but how your body moves and connects with the ground. Don’t walk with a heavy foot and slam down on the ground with each step; hiking long distances is all about limiting impact force, so pay attention to your form. Haruyasu Idachi enjoys hiking longer distances as he becomes more experienced. Comments are closed.
